Meet the Educator

My name is Janine Frost and I am the educator at Kookaburra Cottage Family Day Care. I have lived in Galston for 26 years and have two children. I have worked in the Early Childhood profession for 31 years in both Preschool and Long Day Care Services and have a Bachelor of Education (Birth to Five years). I hold a current Asthma, Anaphylaxis and First Aid certificate and a current working with children check and Police check.

Location

Kookaburra Cottage Family Day Care is a new and purpose built child care and learning service located on 1.7 acres in the heart of Galston. Kookaburra Cottage caters for 4 children a day, 2-5 years of age. The service operates Monday to Friday.

The Environment

I believe children will learn to have an appreciation for the environment and sustainable practices if they have the opportunity to engage with nature. Therefore, great consideration has been taken when creating the indoor and outdoor environments ensuring natural resources are accessible at all times.

Indigenous Perspectives

I acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are our first Australians. Indigenous perspectives are embedded in the daily curriculum through Acknowledgment to Country, dreamtime stories, music experiences and Indigenous resources.

The Service's Philosophy

A bird's nest represents the service's philosophy. Like bird's nests, I respect that all families are diverse. It is my aim to provide an inclusive environment that depicts the current families who are enrolled.

The foundation of the nest is the twigs entwined. This represents the relationship between educator and families. In alliance with The Early Years Learning Framework (DEEWR, 2009) I believe learning outcomes for children are most likely to be achieved when the educator and families work in collaboration.

The inside of the nest signifies a comfortable environment where children will feel safe, happy and empowered to explore, imagine, share, create and dream.

Like all birds leaving the nest the children will be supported in their transition to school. They will be encouraged to develop self-help skills. Numeracy and literacy will be embedded in the curriculum and importantly, the children will be supported when establishing relationships with their peers.
